I do not know much of Taoism, as I have not yet studied much religion. Lao TzuРІР‚в„ўs legend is that of Old Master. Whether this bookРІР‚в„ўs wisdom is completely his own, or a compiled wisdom of his many followers, it is a beautiful collection. I will keep it around on my poetry shelf to be read in small intervals from now on. Just as the English edition I had the pleasure of reading is an interpretation of the original text, I believe that each reader will take away very different interpretations and meanings from this book. It is worth opening either for one page or all.
While reading this book straight through in one sitting was a little unorthodox, and obviously, this was not intended for this means of reading, I enjoyed this book. It was fluid. Full of rules for how to think of oneРІР‚в„ўs self and others, as well as how to treat the natural world, The Way Of Life was not an obdurate cast of guides but one adaptable to each readerРІР‚в„ўs needs.
This book begins by acknowledging that it is an interpretation. Exact translations of this text into English will never be possible, as much of itРІР‚в„ўs passages are written in minimal calligraphic symbols that lack exact English versions. Consisting of eighty-one sayings that explain the laws of a peaceful life, this book reads smooth and calm. It serves well as a resource to both quiet and educate an active mind, and I believe it will never stop being relevant.
A bunch of Pajibans reading and reviewing and honoring AlabamaPink.
